Robert Camuto

Robert Camuto is a wickedly charming citizen of New York and France, but for his latest venture into the wilds of oephilia, Camuto introduces us to the vinyards of Sicily. It's a detailed tour of the wine culture of the region, as well as the best vintages. To accompany the discussion we will, naturally, be hosting a tasting of Sicilian wines provided by the excellent Chamber Street Wines. This is a rare free guided wine tasting by an expert on the region.

•OUR FICTION BOOK CLUB• Led by Sarah McNally, this discussion group meets the first Monday of every month, at 7pm downstairs. They'll be discussing The Slynx by Tatyana Tolstaya. Please note that due to Labor Day, the book club will be meeting on the second Monday of September, 9/13.
•OUR ART & BEAUTY BOOK CLUB• Led by Adjua Greaves, this discussion group meets the second Wednesday of every month, at 7pm downstairs. On September 8th the book club will be discussing A Short Life of Trouble: Forty Years in the New York Art World by Marcia Tucker.
•OUR GRAPHIC NOVEL BOOK CLUB• Led by Evan Narcisse, this discussion group meets the first Thursday of every month, at 7pm downstairs. At our next meeting on September 10th, the book club will be discussing Batwoman: Elegy by Greg Rucka and J. H. Williams III. Please note that the book club will be meeting on Friday, September 10.
•KIDS STORYTIME• Resident storyteller Yvonne Brooks leads a storytime with with arts and crafts for kids ages 3 - 7, every Saturday at noon in the children’s section. Baby Storytime with storyteller Stewart Dawes takes place on Friday at 4:00 PM for ages 0 - 2.

Authors of Flawless: Inside the Largest Diamond Heist in History (Union Square Press, $24.95)
 On February 15th, 2003, after two years' planning, a band of thieves - members of a professional group known as the Scool of Turin - successfully stole nearly half a billion dollars worth of diamonds and cash from the Antwerp Diamond Center, rumored to be one of the most secure buildings in the world. It is considered to be the largest diamond heist in history. Flawless traces this audacious theft from its inception to the night of the crime and into the international manhunt that followed. It's really a gripping story, all the better for being true. You can read an excerpt here.
 Authors Selby and Campbell will be here together to discuss the book and the crime. Scott Selby is a graduate of UC Berkeley and Harvard Law School, with a degree in Human Rights and Intellectual Property Law from Sweden’s Lund University, where he wrote his thesis on diamonds. His co-author Greg Campbell is an award-winning journalist and the author of The Road to Kosovo: A Balkan Diary and Blood Diamonds: Tracing the Deadly Path of the World’s Most Precious Stones. His work has appeared in The Economist, the Wall Street Journal Magazine, the Christian Science Monitor, and the San Francisco Chronicle. He lives with his family in Colorado.
